The Myhre Group Architects team, working with the First United Methodist Church building committee, was responsible for the architectural design of the church's small chapel and expanded narthex. The new chapel provides room for 125 seats with space for a piano and lectern; additionally, a small sound system was integrated and acoustical considerations were made in the design of the walls and ceilings. A challenging aspect of the project was the building committee's desire for a contemporary design that would integrate into the original space, built in the 1950s. To this end, the design team used form, color, and materials to allow the addition to blend with the past while speaking to the present. This project was designed by Raymond Yancey with a previous firm.
