Myhre Group Architects was responsible for the adaptive re-use of the First Church in Salem, Oregon. Due to its location in the Historic District, changes to the exterior design followed original building themes; the use of existing roof forms, stone veneer, stain glass elements and landscaping were key in this endeavor. The interior imbues a warm, welcoming atmosphere while also offering flexible function and a strong backbone for state of the art, multi-media technology. As the heart of the church, the entry is a spacious gathering place with ample natural lighting and a gas fireplace with stone hearth. Updated Sunday school space, kitchen, accessible restrooms, and office areas, as well as lighting, acoustics, technology, and finish upgrades, also enhance the space.
