Myhre Group Architects was responsible for the interior and exterior design of the First Church's existing Reading Room in the Historic Downtown District of Salem, Oregon. Changes to the exterior design reflected the historic building’s original motifs, including the use of brick, an angled storefront and a horizontal canopy. Transparency, lighting, gentle curves and simple signage create a welcoming interior while providing a strong connection to the community. The entry holds a seating alcove with a gas fireplace and a lowered wood ceiling, encouraging visitors to stay and enjoy the ambiance. Video and wireless technology is incorporated throughout, providing a dynamic experience for each user.
